I think the best riding horse is a Quarter Horse.  They are strong and flexible.  This horse has a very laid back attitude most of the time. You will see a lot of quarter horse, they are go to jump, endurance, competitive trail (my favorite) cross country, hunter pace, dressage and fox hunting.
