Sovereign states, contain 203 entries.  This list derives its definition of a state from Article 1 of the Montevideo Convention of 1933. According to the Convention, a state should possess the following qualifications: (a) a permanent population (b) a defined territory (c) government (d) capacity to enter into relations with the other states.
