Actually I would say more like a quarter to half an inch depending on the person...mine is slower than most and some people's grows really fast.

If the hair follicle is round shaped (which we can't tell with the naked eye) it would be straight... The more oval it is the curlier it is.

Also you might try using hairspray on the stain...I have used this old trick many times and it usually works. It is better if you haven't dried it in the dryer yet.
