Yes. These worms do have a zoonotic affect on humans. Its best to clean up poops and wash hands after handling the dog til worms are gone. Also do not allow the animal to lick you in the face. If he/she does then you should wash thoroughly right away.  

The answer depends on the parasite. Whether it's round worms, hookworms, ringworm, heart worm or tape worms. Most worms can be killed with Pyrantel dewormer which is about $20.00.
