Main purpose is to listen to music, but there are many things you can use the iPod for nowadays.
Surf the internet to check for emails, Facebook notifications, Twitter follows. Take pictures, videos, & play games. You basically have all the functions of the iPhone without the capability to call people.
This is my theory: If you are able to use the internet like you are doing now, you should be able to manage a cell phone.
