Been on many .. No place I'd rather be .. On my motorcycle. I think my longest one was 10 days, 6000 miles.
From the east coast to the west coast and back many times.
Yep, quite a few long road trips in my day. I never made it to the west coast of the US yet though.

The road if at all possible.
Generally in order i would say:
1. Road 2. Airways 3. Sea.
But actually it depends on the destination and which path would be the most suit and easier access.
I always prefer the train if possible.

There is no best. It depends on you and what you are trying accomplish with the trip. Sometimes it is a matter of just "smelling the roses" and at other time their is a "time element" that has to be maintained.
