My last blood test put me 3 points into the "diabetes" side so I am looking up foods to avoid for a diabetic and everything on the list is what I can eat! I went in for gallbladder pain and came out with diabetes! Pffft!

My husband went into the VA for a hearing aid and came out with diabetes. lol In his case, I believe it is more a genetic thing, but diet wasn't helping.

See why I am terrified to go to the doctor! Lol! I completely understand what your husband went through! 😔

A couple of years ago, my blood sugar was just barely below "the diabetes level". I just started watching what I ate. Instead of eating 3-4 donuts, I eat one and I cut back on all sweets. I avoid the carbs in breads by eating my hamburgers without a roll, no pizza crust, I use flour tortillas for sandwiches, etc. My blood sugar is now at an acceptable level and I didn't completely give up sweets.

There are many factors when it comes to diabetes. Weight, amount of exercise, diet, and genetics. I am pre-diabetic and it is from a poor diet, being over weight, and lack of exercise. There are no diabetics in my family. My husband on the other hand has a diabetic brother, father, and aunt. It is on both sides of his family. I think he was bound to get it no matter what. Pizza has been the hardest thing for him. We did find a really thin crust frozen on he likes and can eat

When going in for my last physical, my doctor told me that they had lowered the scale for diabetes. So, those who are now borderline would not have been a bit ago.

Although I am borderline, I have no family history of it. But I wanted to try and do something about it. The first thing I did and I found was very helpful for most of my friends was no more soft drinks not even diet. I drink unsweetened tea. Reading labels and checking all of my sugar intake helped a lot. Here is an interesting article about the amount of sugar we intake as opposed to how much we are supposed to be having.
