I used to enjoy playing games with the kids in the neighborhood way back when. Now our society is so full of perverts and fear of perverts I would never even look a kid in the eye. Even at church when I teach Sunday school or have organized games we always have two or three aduts in the room, not because we worry about each other but children have learned to cry wolf for attention and even some blackmail.
Yard sales.
I came home on a Friday, my parents said we were moving on Monday and we needed to sell everything over the weekend. I watched my childhood and toys go walking off with strangers all weekend long. :(
No more hanging out with drug heads and alcoholics.
In this insane world of everyone being so protective over children, when a child actually plays outside by themselves, neighbors call CPS to report the parents. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. The fact that some parents have been charged for this boggles my mind.
When I was growing up, if your parents didn't kick you outside to play, there was something wrong with them. They encouraged kids to be independent from a young age. I remember making myself oatmeal when I was 5 and no one thought that was scandalous. Now people think the child is way too young to learn that kind of skill.
I am shocked and saddened that my granddaughter will grow up in this world the way it is now.
