What is the difference between a backhoe and an excavator? My 3 year old knows the difference and corrects me every time! They look the same to me!

A backhoe looks like a tractor with a scoop bucket on the front and a hinged boom with a bucket (a hoe) on the back.

An excavator, or trackhoe, is a hinged boom and bucket on a rotating cab mounted to tracks. These come in sizes from mini to huge.
