That is a toss up between English/grammar and math. Communication is important so people can understand you and you understand others. And use math everyday. If I am shopping I use it to figure a sale price. Or of I am cooking and need to adjust a recipe to that it feeds two instead of four. Or if you need to adjust time because of using a convection oven, or the time in cooking because the portions are smaller.
Math. Math is everywhere. If you're not using math everyday I'll be worried for you.
- Budgeting your monthly expenses
- Measuring and tracking the calories in your food
- Managing your retirement
- Using Excel Spreadsheets for work and daily tasks.
Literacy/grammar/mastery of reading, writing and speaking the common tongue.

Reading.
Reading and English
Writing and Reading . . . Communication is the foundation of society.
