Betty MacDonald was an American author who specialized in humorous autobiographical tales, and is best known for her book The Egg and I. She also wrote the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series of children's books.

I have read the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series, but I've never heard of mickaboo full of Bojanes phrase you are referring to. Of course, it's been more than 50 years since I've read the books, so....I could have forgotten.

I did a Bing search of the phrase and come up with mickaboo being a type of bird. Sorry I wasn't more helpful.

Hi Danae It's an odd question, asked mainly to see if anyone actually knows the answer. I know there is no record of the phrase in Google as I've asked the question before.

The phrase occurs in her book "Anyone can do anything", when a small child refuses to call a passenger train by its name, insisting instead that it is "Mickaboo full of Bojanes".

Obscure.

Full marks for trying though :)

I had forgotten all about those books until you mentioned them. I don't remember reading The Egg and I, but as I said - it was a long time ago and many times, you have to scour used bookstores or eBay to find some childhood favorites.
