When I was 8 years old, I was one of the first in my small town of New Hampshire to go out buy a skateboard . . . After several attempts to go down a hill without killing myself (No such things as helmets, wrist, elbow or knew bracers in my day), the skateboard was a lovely decoration in my room . . . I went back to bicycle riding right up until age 16 . . . Never looked back. Oh sure I rode bikes with my kids from time to time but it wasn't the same feeling as a child.
What was/is your main source of mobility before you were/are old enough to drive? Bicycle, walking, skateboard? How did/do you get around?
Bicycle, walking, and the subway.
Walking and the city bus
I lived in a rural area and bikes were the only way to get around until we turned 15, then it wasn't too cool to ride a bike and we walked everywhere.
I was a homebody. I preferred staying at home playing with my sister. We rode bikes but only on our short street. If we skated it was at a skating rink. So my mom was my form of transportation. Lol!
Bike and feet. If where were we going was only a block we would walk, if farther we rode our bikes. The neighborhood I grew up in was heavily wooded and our houses were far apart, so we rode our bikes to each others houses.
Bicycle---definitely
Walking and riding my bike.
Walking, bus, skateboard, bike.
Youngest in my group, so was out with friends in their cars by 15. Didn't need to get drivers license until I was 18.
Bicycle
Bike mostly or walking. When I was in college, I had two part time jobs and biked to each one. One job was about 5 miles one way - cleaning rooms at the Holiday Inn off the Interstate. Those were the good ole days for sure!
Thought activation.
Bike. I have a skateboard but I use it for fun, not to get around. Otherwise I get rides from my sister or my parents; they always drive me to school.
Biking, and it still is.
Walking and the bus, but usually walking. Before the age of 12 I used a scooter. (Not the electric kind.) I found the streets and sidewalks to be too broken to use a bike (harder to go around clumps of broken off asphalt.)
