Ya know, one of the coolest things about teaching is the look in a child's eyes when he/she gets it. Yes. They most certainly can make tremendous strides, and it feels good.

I have tutored math from kids to adults.
It's amazing how their confusion can rest on a simple concept that they somehow missed or simply never understood.

Disagree. I had a terrible maths teacher, I understood maths far more when I left school and had to apply it to everyday life. I suddenly thought why didn't they just teach us this way before, rather than out of a textbook?

In higher level math, you'd realize that being good at math isn't something you're born with. Math is one of those things where the only way to get better is to struggle and putting in the most effort everyday. I remember upper division college math courses where people ate, slept, and cried in lecture hall while studying. You can say those classmates are really well off now.
Work hard where it matters.
