Old Newhart Show and one episode on Two and a Half Men.
In movies they portray a "phychiatrist" or "therapist" session where the patient lays on a couch. Have you ever actually SEEN a couch in their offices in real life?
I've never visited an analyst. My first girlfriend's father earned his living in psychoanalysis. I saw his office in Harley Street, it was too tiny for a couch.
Nope ... But I've sat in a couple chairs in their office, that literally engulfed anyone sitting in it. I think it was a trap to prevent people from leaving. LOL
I have never been, but I have seen more shows where the people sit in chairs and talk.
My psych has chairs only i use to go to a therapist who had a couch
After the accident, the doctors recommended my parents send me to a counselor. The first one had a couch but I didn't stick around her office long enough to use it. She always made me a very mad kid. The second guy was great but he didn't have a couch. I guess the ones that have a couch aren't to be trusted! :D
Hi Y&Y,
Yes...once in college, some authority people got really offended by my claim of stuttering. So they sent me to a psychoanalyst of some kind, and it was fun...I did lie on the couch, and he took me through a wonderful relaxation therapy.
Didn't help my stuttering, but it's kinda like Ancient H described for going to sleep...and that's what I did, right on that couch. (He fired me as his patient...nice guy though...)
yes they have them in real life. When I see my doctor for my med check up there is a couch I sit on and he asked me how everything is going.
