In America it will depend on several factors if you are charged or not  your wealth, your state, your county and your race, but mostly your wealth or luck.

1. Walmart billionaire heiress, numerous reckless driving incidents she was quoted saying do you know my last name?  hit and killed a woman, very little news coverage, no jail and no fine.

2. Wealthy drunk business man hit and kills driver, adopted his girlfriend so, he could protect his millions, still free on bond.

3. Many cases here in my city people have multiple DWIs with suspended driver's licenses and it's only when they eventually deliberately kill someone they are punished.

3. Woman driving very reckless hit and killed a police officer that was directing traffic, driver was allow after questioning to leave the accident scene.

Depends on your wealth and your luck.

Where I  live the charge would be reckless driving. The punishment varies from a fine to jail time. Or in the case of the idiot in Orlando the other day, death. He was speeding and weaving through traffic on a busy road. He ended up bouncing between 6 cars and landed sliding into the back end of semi trailer, killing him instantly. Thankfully no one else was seriously hurt.

In United Kingdom law, dangerous driving is a statutory offence. It is also a term of art used in the definition of the offence of causing death by dangerous driving. It replaces the former offence of reckless driving. Canada's Criminal Code has equivalent provisions covering dangerous driving (see "Canada" section below).
