Dear Anonymous,

Interesting Q...I came upon an article claiming black eyes are the rarest in the world!

"You may not believe about the existence of the 'black' eye color; it is the rarest eye color in the world. ... It is seen in about 1% of the people around the world."

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/eye-color-percentages.html

And indeed, red eyes (pink, violet) are another of the most rare colors in the world...typically associated with albinism.

Prevalence not surprisingly changes with where in the world your ancestors came from; hazel eyes for instance are common in the USA and Europe, but rare in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Gray eyes are also extremely rare world-wide, but common in Eastern Europe.

Hi Tom, hi Dozy...as I was working up this Q, I read that amber is referred to as 'wolf eyes'....had never heard that, I'm not even sure of ever having seen the color.

Here is a link to the trailere for a 1994 movie "Wolf" with Jack Nicholson and Michele Pfiefer.

It's about 2 minutes long. Various "amber" eye colors contained within.
