That'd be Zoe. She's a Chihuahua-Jack Russell cross. What makes her special? She's the reason I get out of bed every morning.

(She'd pee on the floor if I didn't let her out.)

I had a cat named Poogle. He was my first cat, and it was honestly love at first sight. We got him from a cat shelter, and whenever I went to visit him before deciding to adopt him, he would see me coming and rush over to greet me, even letting me hold his hand (well, paw!) through the bars.

Sadly, after a few years we had to put him to sleep because he was suffering from various health problems, but it was the right thing to do. I have another cat now, but Poogle will always be my favourite :)

We had a dog named Cappie. She was a rescue dog from a shelter and was about 3 years old when we got her. My kids were very young and she immediately chose my youngest son to be her best friend. He was 5 years old when we got her. We had about 7 acres at the time and she never left the property unless she was accompanied by one of us. She followed that kid around from morning til night, sat beside him at the dinner table and slept with him in his bed. When he started school, Cappie wouldn't leave the front porch until his bus came rolling down the road.

Our cat had kittens and about a month later the cat was hit by a car. Cappie took over as "cat mother" and kept the 5 kittens gathered up and "cleaned" up after them until they learned to use the litter box.

Cappie died of natural causes at about the age of 14. She WAS that extra special dog, one that was impossible to replace.

Dear Gator Blu,

I don't think I could pick just one...that would somehow diminish the others...and they were all special in their own way.

But there was a little yellow kitten, had a fancy name but we just called him "Friend"... My brother brought him home to our folks because he was so weak, the runt of the litter and so not competing well for mother's nipple...

We kept talking about taking him to the vet, get some boric acid for his rheumy eyes. And meanwhile, I just held him on my chest; did lots of reading, watching old movies. Little kitten Friend slept there, me cuddling him, for about seven days.

Finally he just got up, bounced off, no more runny eyes, playing, eating well, climbing the curtains, lots of kitten mischief.

Sometime after that I read the Ashley Montagu book TOUCHING.               The power of healing just by simple loving touch.

This is the one I read, looks like there are newer editions out now.

My dog Grace. The smallest dog I have ever had by quite a bit of weight. The dog before Grace was about 65 pounds and I thought he was small. Grace is about 30 pounds and she needs my protection from many dangers in the world. My Neapolitan Mastiff never gave me any worry, except that he would attackanother dog. So I kept him under control, but I never worried about him. Grace is another matter and she is worried over constantly.

Grace is special and I love her the most of any dog I've had, and I've had many dogs. Grace is my end of life companion and I worry constantly about where she will go if the most likely happens. I predecease her.

That would be my first cat I got as an adult. Her name was Tabitha and I had her 17 years. She was 15 when my son was born and she definitely did not like my son. I put netting over the crib when we got the crib put together to prevent her from jumping in and oh, baby, she was not a happy camper.  She was 17 1/2 when we had to put her down due to health issues.

The reason I ask this question is because today is the 3rd anniversary of the day I had to help my boy Thor, aka Bubby, move on to the next plane of existence. He was the sweetest, most passive dog ever. He was a big boy with a huge head. People would see him and take a step back which always amused me because he was so sweet.

He loved to ride in the car, especially if the top was down, and he had is doggles on. Anytime we visited people who had children they emailed me a photo of their child hugging him. He also had a puppy soft coat. He just won over everyone he met. Even "cat people" The funny thing is I got him as a gift for my husband, but he was a mama's boy and followed me everywhere. If I sat down he would lay that big head in my lap. I miss him everyday.

Excuse the music it is the car radio playing.
