Go back to any classic that you've never read. I finally read Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre and Les Miserable. Please read Les Miserable, if you haven't.
Here's a great read:
In the last couple of months I've started reading eBooks and Audiobooks and, working my way through two local libraries, have found a few authors I hadn't read before.
Rasputin's Daughter by Robert Alexander was an ineresting look at the guy with some of the more outrageous claims explained.
Laura Lippman has written a series about a Jewish, female, P.I. Who operates through a network of other female investigators.
I enjoyed James Lilliefors "The Leviathan Effect" and just finished "Blasphemy" by Douglas Preston -- an interesting take on religious fundamentalism and tele-evangelism.
"Nation" by Terry Pratchett is fascinating. It's as much a parable as a fantasy.
But for a combination of adventure, mystery, romance, bad language, and some of the best humour in modern fiction, you can't go past the "...In Death" series written by Nora Roberts using the pen name J.D.Robb.
It's several years old but 11/22/63 by Stephen King was an incredible read. I'm a huge Stephen King fan so there comes a bit of bias with it...but those I've recommended it to have ended up thanking me afterwards.
I'll give you a list of some good authors that I personally read. Your choice.
F.Paul Wilson
Brad Thor
P.T. Deutermann
Bill O'Reilly
Larry Bond
Clive Cussler
Clive Barker
Brad Taylor
Preston and Child
Alex Berenson
Stephen Hunter
Many others.
Dear Danae,
Here are two more ideas for you, which I especially enjoyed... THE BOYS IN THE BOAT is actually non-fiction, the US winning gold at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. TWO OLD WOMEN is an Athabascan legend, but after that the tribe never again abandoned its frail elders in a cold winter.
I just finished reading 'Osiris' by EJ Swift. I thought that it was pretty good.
Well, I'm late to the party, but here are my suggestions: Lois McMasters Bujold. Her Vorkosigan Saga series is great (Starts with Shards of Honor, I believe) and her "Curse of Chalion" series is also excellent. The former is SF space opera, and the latter is fantasy.
Also SF is the "Chanur" series by CJ Cjherryh
I always try the bestsellers, there usually good.
Blood Moon's Fury by Leah Kingsley. This is the most recent book I have read. It's pretty engaging, especially if you are into young adult fantasy, (which I totally am). It's also book one of a series (Curse of the Blood Moon) so more good reads will follow.
Book description:
"You better watch your back, because we're watching you."
Three very different teens have gone to school together for years but only acknowledge each other's existence when they find themselves mixed up with a dangerous gang. Kickass Amy, nerdy Charles, and hot jock Zack must find a way to work together or else. After Amy crosses the gang's leader, she receives threats which she discounts. Little does she know she has taken on one of the most ruthless supernatural creatures the world has ever known. This thrilling page turner takes high school drama to a new level as the teens' every action has drastic consequences. Join these three heroes as they discover terrifying peril, captivating romance, and the dark secrets of Amy's past.
Blood Moon's Fury is an action packed read guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat. Chock-full of unexpected plot twists, witty banter, addictive subplots, and relatable characters, the story never has a dull moment. This debut novel from Leah Kingsley is a spectacular new addition to the genre of suspenseful teen drama, which is embodied by the memorable works of Suzanne Collins, Richelle Mead, and Elizabeth Chandler.
