I tried to ask a question but it said that it was over 250 characters I've seen other questions with that were longer than mine how do I post my question?

You can either put more in an answer to your question or you can ask your question and then click "Edit" and add some more. Beware though that long questions usually don't get as many answers as a lot of people don't feel like reading long questions or answers.
