I agree with the above commenter. Christmas and Thanksgiving has always been a big deal for my family.

As a rule me or my family don't go 'all out' for all holidays. Christmas,  Easter and Thanksgiving are the family holidays that we actually celebrate. The others are just days off work to get crap done around the house.

Not really.  When I was a kid, my step-mother (hereto after referred to as the ESM)  became crazy (ier).  Every thing had to be perfect and bigger than the neighbors.  She could never achieve perfection and drove the rest of the family like oxen pulling a cart over a high pass.  Definitely sucked the joy out of a holiday.  I developed a real aversion to any sort of holiday, and that attitude lingers to this day.

It means time with family.

Cooking together in the kitchen, apple picking in the orchards, shopping together for gifts on a snowy night in a quaint little town . . .

The culture allows for time away from work and I can see no better way to spend that time then with my loved ones.

Hi, yes holidays are very meaningful to me. I attend the
university during daytime and I work part time, mostly during the night. I
really need holidays right now to spend some times with my family and friends.
It’s been a long time since I didn’t hang out with them. Where do you like
spending holidays? I don’t like overseas holidays.
