Is there some way to clear the Blurtit site notification number on the navigation bar? I have an invalid number there, 9, which won't go away no matter what I do.

It's a glitch on the website. Mine never go away even after adjusting my notification settings several times. I have even spent up to 10 minutes clicking the notification tab over and over again. They have accumulated from my first day until now. That's right, my friends, I am stuck at 8500 notifications. I'm "special" like that.
