I've been trying to think of a way to introduce a competition into Blurtit. I've posted an idea below. What are your thoughts?

Highest number of thanks for an answer is a start . If many thank it , it's the same as liking the answer.

Most time spent online here.

Also , hopefully in the future I can burn my ask hall of fame shirt and replace it

With a ... Blurtit.com / best answers online/anytime t shirt would be a great way to help spread the word ...

Here's a screenshot of my idea:

A monthly leaderboard that awards points for answering questions.

I have tried to make sure the site doesn't get filled with poorly written answers by stipulating that points are deducted for answers that are removed from the site.

I also threw in some random ideas for feed changes... Nothing urgent or groundbreaking, but I love thinking about these kind of tweaks.

1. It would be cool to simply the tabs at the top of the feed (currently Popular / New / Mine / Feed). I'm not sure if this is the right answer either though...

2. Do people use the Blurt / Follow / Favorite buttons in the feed? I'm wondering whether those options could be within the page itself.

4 People thanked the writer.

I normally only use the Thank and Comment buttons. Occasionally, if I think of it, I'll give a green arrow -- though I don't know the difference between greening and thanking. They both seem to do the same thing.

Leader boards can be popular but most of us would probably just do what we always do, leader board position notwithstanding. On my chess website they have a leader board for tournaments and some people go to extraordinary lengths (in terms of the time they spend on line) to try to get their name on top. For most of us it isn't such a big deal.

Different questions being worth different points is an interesting idea, though I'm not sure how you'd make it work. Questions on science, technology, religion, history and politics can take a lot of research and a lot of writing -- but the final result need have no more validity than a Wikipedia entry.

Now all that sounds very negative but isn't intended to be. I love the way you've organised the site. It's friendly, interesting, and fun. I don't think it's appropriate to compare it to other sites that we may have grown more familiar with; this is just fine as it is.

Sure, there are a couple of glitches, but you know about them and I'm aware that if they could be fixed then they would be fixed. Thanks for providing such an interesting site.

This is basically what Blurtit had when I joined some 8 or so years ago and users found a way to manipulate it so their friends could win and caused a lot of hard feelings.

As for judging answers and deleting those who don't follow guidelines should already be done under Blurtit Guidelines.  There were winners for categories and then for those who won most categories everyday, but no prizes as it could get expensive unless you have some great  advertisers on here.

But it won't be long till you see what I mean about friends voting for friends regardless the importance of the answer. So this time I am not impressed with this my friend.  For those of us who wish not to compete here, give us a way out but still allow us to answer all questions,  as we had this before, and many more of us old timers may still be around.
