You may want to check with the maker, but I believe the gold pack was once upon a time labeled as "light", and the silver is what was once known as "ultra light", both versions being menthol.
Light or ultra light to me meant the strength of the cigarettes taste or flavor, but then someone decided that it was confusing people into believing these are safer than regular cigarettes and therefore mislabeled. So... Here came color coding to REALLY confuse not only us smokers, but retailers. I have to hand it to that brilliant moron for fixing something that wasn't broken until they put in their 2 cents. I can only hope that every gold pack regardless of brand, was once light menthol, and all the ultra or extra light menthol are silver. I hate buying the wrong item.
