How Do I Convert A 4 Prong 220 Outlet To A Three Prong 220 Outlet?
I have a Air Compressor that runs off 210 volts but the compressor is set up for three wires. The 220 outlet has the following colored wires, Red, White, Black and Ground.

The red and black wires are used for the hot and the white and ground are both a neutral or other word ground. Hook both white and ground on same lug in the three prong plug

This is totally false. Do not follow these directions. Neutral and ground are NOT the same. If you have a straight 240 receptacle you will need to use your red/black and ground just leave the white unconnected and capped.
