A URL is basically just a websites address on the internet. The best way to find a website's URL when you don't already know it is to use a search engine.

Finding the URL of a site
If you think of the internet like a really big town, and your browser as a taxi cab that drives your around that town- then the URL is simply the address that your browser needs to take you to.

For example, if you wanted to view the information on the ESPN sports website, you'd need to tell your browser to go to that specific location so you can read what's been posted there.

The quickest way would be to tell your browser 'go to this address' and simply give it the URL.
That's the same as telling your taxi driver to go to a specific house on a specific street- he wouldn't have any problems finding it.

Things can get a bit trickier if you don't know the exact URL of the website, but that's where search engines come in handy.

How search engines work
Search engines work a bit like sat-navs in your taxi cab.

You can type in a general piece of information, and a search engine will match it up with specific addresses.
It will then give you a list of possible locations you may be interested in based on your search criteria.

If we go back to the example of the ESPN website- if I didn't know the exact address, I'd simply give a search engine as much information as I know about the site, and it should be able to work out what the exact address is.

So if I were to type in the words 'ESPN' and 'Sports' into a search engine, one of the first search results would be www.espn.go.com/, the exact website I was looking for!

There is no difficulty in locating a URL for a website.
At the top of your webpage, where the web address is located, you will find www... This is the URL of the website.

The term URL is an abbreviation for Uniform Resource Locator. It is the global address of a document on the internet. Thus it can be thought of as the web address.

These URL are also used to link one page to another.

Now the first part of the URL is the protocol for example "http" while the second part of the URL is the full qualified domain name for example "www.soso.com". And the third part is the path that locates at which the particular webpage is located like "/url.html"

Now since you know all about URL there will no longer be any difficulty locating one ever again!

Even if you have a bit idea about the name of the website, you can easily find the URL and visit the website.

The process that you should follow is:

Open the website of any leading search engine
Type the few letters that you know about the address of the website.
You will find that in a fraction of a second you have the name of the website on the very first page of the search engine.

Even if you have no idea about the name of a site, what you can do is to write the kind of service that the website provides and you should be able to find that service.

URL is Uniform Resource Locator.  It is the "address" of a web page on the Internet.

Every URL consists of some of the following: The scheme name (commonly called protocol), followed by a colon, then, depending on scheme, a hostname (alternatively, IP address).
The combined syntax is -
scheme://username:password@domain:port/path?query_string#anchor

The hostname and domain name portion of a URL are case-insensitive since the DNS is specified to ignore case.
