I grew up mostly in Seattle, Washington. My husband was in the U.S. Navy and we lived on the west coast. Moved to Arkansas when he got out of the Navy and raised our kids their for the most part before moving to Northern Illinois. I talk frequently to my friends in the South and still have a little bit of a southern accent.

Do they say, "Do what?" in Arkansas instead of "What did you say?" when they didn't hear you...like they sometimes do in Tampa?

This is funny because I live in Alaska, I don't think we have accents except for people who speak native, and I have been told that I have a southern Floridian accent. Odd one that.

      answered 5 months ago

Southern Floridian??? And you've always lived in Alaska? Actually, that could mean a Southern accent or a New York accent, since so many New Yorkers retire to South Florida.

My accent is a mixture of southern hillbilly. A little bit twangy, a little bit red-neck. Lol.

      answered 5 months ago

I think you must live near Tampa then ;)

I have lived in the south all my life and I have no accent but instead a lovable voice that many ladies adore(I have been told this many times so it's not me talking).

I have a northern Irish accent wish i had a southern Irish accent though or even an English accent i hate my accent

      answered 5 months ago

I have Irish relatives, so I know what you mean...but they're mostly in Kerry. You may not realize it, but what's unique about the Northern Irish accent is that everything you say sounds like a question because your voice rises at the end of sentences instead of going down....even declarative sentences.

Everytime I meet people from Ohio and Michigan, they tell me they have no accent. But they just have an upper midwestern accent.

I was born in Indianna, but I grew up in Tennessee most of my life. The people in Tennessee say I have a northern accent and the people in Indianna say I have a southern accent. Weird huh?

      answered 5 months ago

      They're probably both right....you're a mixed bag.

I've been told that I have a southern accent. I usually don't hear it but I guess that's because my family is from Louisiana, though I've never been there. I've lived in California all my life.

When i was in 6th grade, my friends said i have british-english accent. I never liked british-english as how it seems to me a little more dramatic. Too many ups and downs.. So i was always like "no I don't" =P lolx but now, in grade 9, I'm starting to realize that maybe i do.. =( lolx! But i like new york's accent better. Seems a little more cooler to me =P

Natural English accents sound better by English people, not Americans. But...we can do all sorts of accents...LOL! I'm kidding, but it sounds weird when I try to do an American accent it comes out hillbilly...??

I was born and raised in New York City (outer borough), and have a real Noo Yawk accent, which I never noticed to any degree until I moved to Ohio.  Some people would ask me if I was from New England (huh??), and other people would tell me they loved the accent.  After a couple of months of this, I found if I talked slow, I could pronounce words "un-Brooklyn", but if I get excited, then it's all "tawk", "dawg", "cuppa cawfee".  LOL! -- boddabing boddaboom!  (and yes, I'm from an Italian family).

Cambridge, English accent. Sometimes a bit of cockney, chav, scouse or New Yorker comes out. Don't ask me why New York becuase I've never been there! But, when ever I say my country or something with an 'or' at the end of words, I always pronounce them like 'Singapaw-ah' and then I'm like 'LOL!'

Upper midwest.  Or Minnesotan, but not the Minnesotan that was evident in the movie Fargo.

I used to have a very strong southern accent (sometimes called a Tennessee Accent or a redneck accent). But as of now I don't have one, but I can still do the southern accent if I want! My mother who is from Brooklyn can do a strong New Yorker accent when she wants to.
