Handsaws are one of the most common tools for cutting wood into different shapes and sizes. Handsaws are one of the oldest tools used. In Egyptian carvings we can see carpenters using handsaws. We can obtain handsaws in many different shapes and configurations. The most common saw that serves for general purposes is about 26" long and has 8 teeth per inch. In woodworking and carpentry, handsaws are used to cut pieces of wood into different shapes. In the next step these are joined together to make wooden piece.

Good quality well designed handsaws gives many years of good service. However, doing little maintenance each time you use will prolong the life of the saw. Do wipe the entire surface of the blade of the saw with a cloth dipped in oil such that it prevents rust from forming on the blades due to any moisture left blind. By doing this the life of the saw can be increased. Always keep the saw teeth covered with a protective cover.

When it needs sharpening, do it by grinding and sharpening using a good sharpener. Tormek's Supergrind is one of the good tools to serve this purpose.
